Flexible Workflows

TRIOS and its associated software provides what is a true Digital Impression System. The order form within TRIOS software allows you to concisely define your prescription for the case and the software then creates the specific workflow for this prescription. When you have completed and validated the scan, your digital impression is securely transferred and sent to the selected laboratory.

Pre-Preparation Scanning: By selecting this option, you have the opportunity to record an addition pre-prep scan of the case. This option is used when there is an anatomy which you would like to share with the laboratory for use in the design of the final restoration. This anatomy can either be the original anatomy, that of a temporary crown or that of a diagnostic wax-up. The first stage of the scanning workflow involves capturing the original anatomy of the tooth and surrounding teeth. On completion of this stage, the software automatically hides the tooth details and prompts the user for an additional scan of the tooth after prepping. Since the surrounding detail still exists, only the prep needs to be rescanned.

Implant Scanning

Implant Scanning (for abutments & bridges): Implant position and orientation is accurately captured by the use of two stage scanning using 'scan flags'. A scan flag is a precise, autoclavable and reusable component which reliably engages with and attaches to the implant head. When the appropriate workflow is selected at the prescription stage, the software will implement additional steps in the scanning workflow. An initial scan is captured without the healing abutment in place. This scan is used to capture the emergence profile, the proximal contacts and as much surrounding detail as is required. The scan flag is now attached to the implant and a second scan is completed which will used by the design software to accurately determine the position and orientation of the implant during the design process.

Post & Core: When a post and core prescription is defined, the user is prompted through a workflow similar to that for implant cases. A range of scan flags are available for popular P&C systems and a two stage scan workflow is used to accurately capture the anatomical detail as well as the position, depth and orientation of the core for use the design process.

High Definition Photos

High Definition Photos: For that extra level of communication and for those tricky cases where the margin line is difficult to defines, TRIOS allows you to capture a series of high definition 2D photos which are superimposed on the 3D scan. These images are bundled with the scan and available to the laboratory to view when determining the margin line during the design process.

Accurate Shade Capture

Accurate Shade Capture: TRIOS is the only colour digital impression system that has the ability to accurately capture shade information. The scanner requires a simple colour calibration routine to ensure accuracy and can then capture and determine shade as part of the scan. Like so many other features of TRIOS, this information is then available to the laboratory through 3Shape Dental System. Not only can shade capture be useful during restorative procedures, it can be a powerful and reliable tool when discussing changes in shade as part of oral hygiene consultations, bleaching etc.

Validation tools help you get it right first time

TRIOS software provides a range of tools to help you ensure your digital impression is the best it can be. When used correctly, you can be confident that your laboratory will be able to produce a result that will fit perfectly and look great. By its very nature, digital impressions can be trimmed, deleted and rescanned all in the one sitting meaning you should never have to retake a digital impression.

Undercut Detection

Undercut Detection: TRIOS software will automatically determine the optimal direction of insertion for the prep and from this highlight any undercuts that may be present on the prep. A colour coded chart with adjustable scale can be used in conjunction with this to illustrate the depth of the undercut. You also have the flexibility to override the direction of insertion and set this yourself. Particularly useful when capturing scans for bridgework, this tool enables you to minimise undercutting of the preps.

Occlusal Contact & Clearance

Occlusal Contact & Clearance: The occlusal clearance is presented as a colour coded map with an adjustable scale which allows you to assess:

  1. occlusal contact to ensure the occlusion is accurately captured.
  2. clearance between the prep and the antagonist to ensure there is enough space to allow the restoration to be made and remain within minimum thickness boundaries.

Whether your prep needs adjustment due to too much undercutting or because there is not enough clearance, the process is straight forward. Simply delete the section of the scan, reprep the tooth and rescan that area. Double check your result and you are left with the perfect scan!

Impression and Model Analogues: Scanning implant cases requires the use of 'scan flags' which are autoclavable and reusable. Where models are required for implant cases, a range of reusable model analogues are available which can be easily retrieved from the model without the need to break or destroy the model offering a significant reduction in consumable costs.

Model-Free Restorations: The production of models in the laboratory often has a definitive cost associated with it, particularly when the model is for an implant case. By utilising full contour or monolithic restorations, the laboratory model is no longer required and in many cases, the laboratory fee reduces accordingly.

Reduced Handling and Shipping: Digital impressions are instantly submitted to the laboratory electronically so when the impression is captured there are few additional tasks to be completed. Tasks such as handling, impression sterilisation, logging, packing and shipping are no longer required and have both direct and indirect cost benefits.

Fewer Remakes, Retakes and Adjustments: The increased accuracy and reliability digital impressions offer along with the ability to validate the impression and correct if necessary at the chair side means you will always get a good impression. The risk of the restoration needing to be remade or adjusted will therefore be reduced leading to savings in terms of lab bills, chair time, and patient visits as well as better fitting restorations.

Implant Planning and Guide Design: 3Shape Implant Studio is the first implant planning software available to clinicians that is open, restoration-driven and part of a full lab suite of software. The workflow is simple. A TRIOS scan of the patient is combined with a CBCT scan and accurately aligned using best fit algorithms around the area of interest. The crown is placed in the combined scan and its position, orientation and shape defined. The software determines the long axis of the crown and suggests an ideal implant placement position.

You select your preferred implant system and you have full control over the final position of the implant with many visual tools to help you decide on the best placement for the implant. The design of the guide can be completed either in-house or via your laboratory and an STL file is provided for the production of the guide via either milling or 3D printing.

What's more, a provisional crown can be designed for fitting at the point of implant placement altogether resulting in a more efficient and cost effective solution for you and your patient.
