In September last year, Shining 3D launched the ground breaking Elite Intra Oral Scanner, a first of it’s kind incorporating photogrammetry. With over 30 installations across the UK and Ireland we wanted to share our experiences, and that of our customers who have been enjoying this new technology over the past six months.
Full Arch Accuracy
The biggest challenge for all Intra Oral Scanners has been achieving the level of accuracy that is required to go ‘straight to fit’ with an intra oral scan. By incorporating Intra Oral Photogrammetry (IPG), Elite can truly achieve accuracy to the level that ensures passivity every time.
From the very first patient scan we completed, all of our customers have reported perfect passivity on all cases they have completed for both provisional and definitive prostheses.
Our customers are now embracing same day protocols where a patient arrives for surgery in the morning and walks out that afternoon with a perfectly passive, customised 3D Printed prosthesis.
Software and Product Developments
Over the past six months we have seen a number of developments that have greatly improved an already excellent product. This is an impressive indication of the commitment of Shining 3D to listen to users and dedicating resources to constantly improve their products.
Software Upgrades:
– Manual alignment option to allow the user to assist the software for the alignment of cans in tricky situations
– Order forms can now be edited retrospectively should the actual treatment differ from the initially intended treatment.
Component Development
– Increased range of scan body kits and validated implant systems.
– Introduction of Scan Caps to assist automatic alignment of the edentulous arch with the IPG scan.
Enjoyed by Lab Technicians Too
Most labs who are working with Elite scans have experience with other Photogrammetry systems and the feedback is consistent. The workflow is simple and the scans are easy to work with.
As well as the simplicity of the scans being aligned within the software at the clinic, the fact that the library preferred by the lab can be easily imported into the Elite software is one of the hidden gems of the system. This eliminates the risk of the lab being locked into a predefined workflow as defined by an OEM library. What’s even better is the fact that library can be swapped at any point within the Elite software and the patient does not have to be rescanned!
